How to get rid of a foot cramp?

I have severe foot cramps in the night and due to which I have severe pain in my right foot. I have not contacted doctor but I feel I am regularly getting it since last one month. The pain is very severe as if I would stop breathing and the sudden pain eases a bit. After the eased pain, there is tingling pain which continues for next 24 hours.

I am getting this every 3-4 days. Is it a signal for some big disease coming in or just something very small. I am very scared. Could someone throw some light into it.
