I wanted to know if there are some steps that has to be taken before you plan for pregnancy. Or is it that you go straight into it and then go for medical help.

It is best to reduce your weight before trying to conceive. This is because not only does being overweight reduce your chances of conceiving, but it will also put both you and your baby at greater risk of complications. If you are a smoker, you should know that smoking can reduce your fertility, make you more prone to miscarriage, and restrict fetal growth. As it may take you some time to give up smoking, it is again best to try to stop several months before attempting to conceive. Indeed, there is no better incentive for you and your partner to stop smoking than when you are trying for a baby.
